Home remedies for mosquito bites
Banana
Method: • Take one banana peel and cut it into smaller pieces. • Rub the inside of the banana peel against the itchy skin, until you feel relief.
Ice
Ice will relieve itching and prevent swelling at the site of the bite. The ice numbs the nerves that cause itching and soreness.
Method: • Take a couple of ice cubes and put them in the washcloth. • Rub it against the mosquito bite, until the itching stops.
Apple cider vinegar
ACV is an excellent home remedy, because acids in it help relieve itching. Method: • Take a cheesecloth and soak it in apple cider vinegar. • Apply it to the affected skin and leave it for about 20 minutes. Itching should stop.
Honey
Honey acts as a natural antibiotic and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Method: • Rub a little honey directly to the mosquito bite and leave it for 5 minutes. • Repeat this routine several times a day until you feel relief.
Baking soda
Baking soda has alkaline component which neutralizes the PH balance and therefore reduces inflammation and itching. Method: • Take a small amount of baking soda and apply it to the mosquito bite. • You can repeat this process for several times a day.
Basil
Aromatic basil leaves contain camphor and thymol – two components that reduce itching. Method: • Apply one basil leaf to the itchy skin area and leave it for about 30 minutes. • You can also chop or grind basil leaves and use that instead.
Lemon and lime
Both of these citrus fruits have antibacterial and antimicrobial poperties. Their juice or bark kills all types of bacteria. Method: • Take one lemon cut it in half and rub it against your itchy skin for quick relief. • You can try rubbing the lemon rind over your skin, sometimes this also helps. Note: This remedy should be used only at home, so do not go out in sun with lemon juice on your skin.
Toothpaste
Mint toothpaste is great for mosquito bites, because mint helps to cool the skin. The brain can process only one sensation at a time, therefore the chill sensation will reach the brain first and make the itching stop. Method: • Put some toothpaste on your finger tip and rub it against the itchy skin. • Repeat this process several times a day, until you feel relief.
Milk and water
This is a very effective remedy and helps to reduce inflammation, itch and swelling. Method: • Mix the same amounts of milk and water. • Soak a washcloth in the mixture, apply it to the affected skin area and leave it for 20 minutes.
Garlic and onions
Onion and garlic can reduce swelling and alleviate the itching after insect bites. Method: • Make garlic and onion mixture and apply it to the affected skin. • Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes, then wash it off with warm water.
Aloe Vera
One of the best natural antiseptics. Method: • Take one aloe Vera leaf, extract the gel and put it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. • Apply the gel directly to the affected skin.
Salt
Given that it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, salt is an excellent remedy for swelling and itching after mosquito bites.
Method: • Make a paste of salt and a few drops of water and apply it to the affected skin area. • Leave it for a few minutes, then wash it off. Note: Sea water is also an excellent remedy for mosquito bites, so if you live near the beach be sure to go for a swim.
