How to Get Rid of Knee Pain

Many people often struggle with a sudden knee pain, and sometimes the pain can even affect both knees, but this does not happen so often. The main cause of knee pain is prolonged sitting or long walking or standing, which leads to excessive pressure and load on joints and muscles. Knee pain can also be caused by some injuries, lack of calcium, low bone density, etc. In addition, knee pain can sometimes be a consequence of kidney and heart diseases, and not so often venous diseases.

It often happens that the blood does not flow to the heart properly and that can lead to a great pressure in the veins. When this happens we start to feel pain and heaviness in the legs.

Osteoarthritis of the knee

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common joint diseases, which occurs when the cartilage in the joints is damaged. This is a type of a chronic degenerative change in the articular cartilage, which is in most cases a consequence of the natural process of aging or a disease. Osteoarthritis usually occurs after the age of 40, and besides knees it can also affect feet, spine, hips, etc.

Osteoarthritis symptoms

• Limited mobility accompanied by constant pain in the knees and joints.
• Joint pain is most intense in the morning and getting out of bed can be very hard. The pain intensifies when the joints are under pressure.
• The muscles around the joints can become weaker. This is most often the case with the knee osteoarthritis.
• You may hear some cracking sounds in your joints, but this can also happen with a healthy joint. So if it doesn’t hurt like in most cases, then there’s nothing to worry about.

Osteoarthritis prevention

• Losing weight is the most important thing – excess weight, especially in the stomach and thighs, puts pressure on the joints, causing pain and increasing the risk of osteoarthritis.
• Be active – swimming, cycling, walking, and similar activities strengthen the knees and help prevent degenerative changes.
• Avoid cold weather – always be well protected in low temperatures and dress warmly in the winter months. Low temperatures can be harsh, even for healthy joints.
• Less stress – stress affects the entire body, including the joints. Whenever you can, take some time to relax with music or whatever you like.
• Good posture – always pay attention to your posture while sitting, standing, lifting heavy objects, etc.
